Children under the age of 5 are most at risk of eating or drinking a poisonous substance, although older children can be at risk too.
Make sure that all harmful substances are out of reach and even better out of sight too. These include dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent capsules, alcohol, cigarettes, vaping liquids, cleaning products and all medicines. It is also important to keep medicines in their original box and make sure that lids are on tight.
Remember that the lid on a medicine bottle is designed to slow a child’s access down but it is not child proof.
Always use child locks on cupboards that contain any of these items.
